The little berry thrives on sleeping well through the day. When her naps are short, she turns whiny, clingy and is generally not a happy baby. For the past month or so, it’s been this way at home. She sleeps for 20-40mins and ends up way too tired by her bedtime. We’ve been trying various to nap train her but it hasn’t gained much results so far.
Nway, some things I’ve gleaned from reading up…
Nap training is much harder than night sleep training. It usually takes much longer to establish, up to 2-3 weeks.
It’s harder to establish due to a variety of reasons – parents’s schedules get in e way of a consistent routine, everything is much brighter and louder in the day time than at night, late bedtimes the night before causes baby to be overtired hence it’s harder to put her down for naps.
When nap training, it is wise to shift bedtime much earlier because naps would suffer and baby would need to make up for the lost sleep. When baby is nap trained, bedtime can resume to the normal hour.
Expect nap regression within 2 weeks post-training. However, regression shouldn’t last beyond a couple of days.
